Dhanurasana: Bow Pose

How to Do Bow Pose in Yoga

Dhanurasana, or Bow pose, is a powerful backbending posture that opens your chest and stretches the muscles on the front of your body.

Before you begin this yoga pose you should first prepare your neck and shoulders with the breath-centric movements of Dvipada Pitham (Bridge Pose). This will help relieve tension in the neck, shoulders and back. You can also perform this same posture as a counter-pose following Dhanurasana to alleviate any residual tension from doing the pose itself. (It's a strong posture!)

Try this 2-minute Viniyoga version of Dhanurasana or Bow posture to activate your entire system. And remember: keep following the flow of your breath.
