Slow Yoga Poses to Induce Sleep (Apanasana, Savasana)

A Simple Yoga Sequence for Before Bedtime

This slow and simple yoga practice can be done by anyone, even kids, to help prepare you for a restful night’s sleep. These postures help to calm the mind. All you need to do is follow along with your breath, and within minutes you will be falling asleep.

The last posture in this sequence is Savasana, or Corpse Pose. During Savasana, your body and mind are completely relaxed and your awareness is in every cell of your body. Remember to sense and feel each body part and at the same time feel the space within and around your body.

Exchange thinking for feeling, as your awareness becomes less focused in a particular direction. This will open yourself to the effortless flow of your awareness—and allow you to sleep.

Benefits: soothing, relaxing, quieting
