Since my father's father, Theodore, (my grandfather) was born in Moscow and his mother and relatives in Lithuania — the expressive and athletic rhythms and themes in these pieces are relevant to Dad's life and heritage.
We recorded Ken Olsen performing the cello at Bennett-Gordon Hall at the Ravinia festival in the summer of 2013. Chris Willis was the recording engineer.
Ken's expression and talent brings passion and energy to the piece.
NOTE: The cello suites by Benjamin Britten (Op. 72, 80, and 87) are a series of three compositions for solo cello, dedicated to Mstislav Rostropovich.
