Traditionally, the word "Viniyoga" refers to the idea of placing the elements of ritual together in a meaningful way.
Since 1987, I have been practicing the methodology of Viniyoga, which has been the heart of my personal practice and a model for my articles, books, and films.
Viniyoga is an extremely sophisticated approach to health and healing. It involves the dynamic interplay of movements, sounds, gestures, breathing techniques, and meditations — sequentially connected and applied layer by layer to create a multi-dimensional personal practice for the individual. This differs greatly than simply performing postures in a class.
Traditionally, the word "Viniyoga" refers to the idea of placing the elements of ritual together in a meaningful way. Today, the practice of Viniyoga is about creating a multidimensional approach to practice, placing the various tools of yoga together in an appropriate way for a particular purpose: low back pain, stress reduction, focusing the mind, sleep, linking with something meaningful that enriches your inner life. This strategy of progressive layering of methodologies is an intuitive art and can be developed progressively over time.
Initially, we all need a therapist or teacher to put the tools and practices together to meet our changing needs from day to day. But always, the goal is to produce meaningful change and improve the quality of your life.
Here on this site, is an introduction to this integral vision of Viniyoga.
Try out the videos, practices, and tools and keep coming back to them again and again and allow yourself to grow your daily practice. Then, see how your understanding of yourself is deepening.
I sincerely hope that you'll enjoy your experience, and as you do, feel a greater sense of health and well-being!
